About the organization

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping project. The ACLED team conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED material is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support the work of practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

ACLED is recruiting a full-time Head of Corporate Licensing to oversee ACLED’s data corporate licensing and engagement. This position reports to the Chief of Development and Engagement based in EST.

This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service (EST working hours preferred). The start date for this position is April 2024. Specific roles and responsibilities

The Head of Corporate Licensing will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Developing and implementing strategies and plans to achieve and exceed annual sales goals
  • Setting quarterly and annual sales goals and effective metrics to motivate the sales teams to achieve them
  • Working with the Communications department and future Marketing staff to design and produce compelling marketing and pitch materials
  • Developing onboarding and training programs for corporate licensing staff
  • Defining and overseeing licensing staff compensation and incentive programs that motivate the team to achieve sales targets
  • Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting relationships with global corporate partners, communicating the strong value proposition of ACLED data through proposals and presentations
  • Managing and developing a corporate licensing team and maintaining sales operations and administration
  • In collaboration with the Finance department, developing and managing sales budgets
  • In cooperation with the Operations department, oversee and develop infrastructure and systems to support the success of the corporate licensing function
  • Monitoring market and competitor products and activities
  • Providing detailed and regular sales forecasting and reporting (both financial and narrative) to the Chief of Development and Engagement
  • Collaborating with the Grants & Development team to:
    • Review client activity, anticipate client needs, and improve client satisfaction to ensure client retention, based on their collection of relevant user metrics and survey data
    • Ensure alignment across ACLED’s corporate and public sector licensing efforts around the sales process, product offerings, pricing, marketing, and other activities
  • Establishing and maintaining key client relationships
  • Attend trade conferences to build awareness of ACLED products across new global markets and generate leads/sales
  • Other tasks may be assigned by the Chief of Development and Engagement

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • 8+ years of experience leading global corporate sales teams preferably selling data, SaaS, or comparable products in the capacity of Corporate Sales Manager or Director
  • Experience or familiarity with non-profit, international organizations
  • Work or academic experience focused on topics related to peacebuilding, conflict, human rights, and/or global affairs;
  • Proven ability to drive the corporate client process from plan to execution to close
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability and confidence to present clearly and concisely to external audiences
  • Comfort working within evolving systems and processes (dynamic and flexible
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate sales and engagement strategies and methods, as well as employee motivation techniques
  • Corporate marketing experience preferred
  • Ability to work remotely with limited supervision
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Good strategic judgment, entrepreneurial self-starter, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM
  • Experience with MS Office and/or Google Workspace products
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (business, marketing, etc.)
  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in other languages, including French, Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese would be an asset.
