Course Overview
The complexity and unprecedented number of humanitarian emergencies requiring a medical response have resulted in an increased demand for competent humanitarian healthcare providers. The course aims to provide such knowledge, strategies, and tools to work as medical personnel in a humanitarian situation.
The course also provides learners with public health strategies to decrease morbidity and mortality, as well as tools for preventive and curative management of the main diseases and disorders in a broad range of areas needed for the front-line humanitarian health staff. It highlights the global health situation and factors that determine health status, how context and different types of disasters affects the health of populations.
Healthcare providers have their own skill sets unique to their respective practice. However, these are not enough because working in a dynamic humanitarian environment requires an entirely different set of competencies. The globally required competencies are what is offered by this course.
