Position Title: Senior Information Management Associate

Vacancy Number: SVN/IOMSO/008/2024

Duty Station: Mogadishu, Somalia

Classification: General Service Category, Grade G6

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term, six months with possibility of Extension

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the direct supervision and overall supervision of the Information Technology Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing the activities related to information management and systems’ development required by IOM Somalia Misson. The incumbent will also provide support in the administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all IOM application.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Define user requirements, analyse business processes, create prototypes to confirm requirements, design, code, test, and deploy .NET applications.
  2. Manage, maintain, optimize the performance, document, and support both existing and new .NET applications.
  3. Train users to ensure productive use of the applications.
  4. Be responsible for the configuration, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and security of applications and databases.
  5. Create, manage, and maintain database objects to be used for applications and reports.
  6. Implement software development SOPs establishing source control, backup, recovery, and issue tracking using IOM standard tools.
  7. Respond promptly within accepted timeframes to application’s user support and enhancement requests ensuring continued operation of the said applications.
  8. Timely report needs and progress on issues in his/her area of responsibility.
  9. Supports the confidentiality and integrity of all IOM related information by following control procedures in ICT standards of conduct and data protection rules.
  10. Maintain and ensure confidentiality of data in accordance with IOM Data protection rules and principles as guided by the IOM standards of conduct; and
  11. Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • University degree in Computer Science or a related area with four (4) years of relevant professional experience, or
  • High School diploma with six (6) years of relevant professional experience

Experience

  • A minimum of four years of increasing responsibilities in .NET software development (particularly on C#, ASP.NET) with SQL Databases and a minimum of two years of experience in developing web-based database applications and thin-client Web-based applications.
  • Experience working with specialized international agencies (UN Agencies, International Organizations, and International NGOs) and in complex operations, including conflict and post-conflict situations preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge on software development, particularly the use of C# and .Net Framework
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or higher, SQL Reports Server, and experience in using SSMS

Languages

For all applicants, fluency in English and Somali (oral and written) is required.
