Course Overview
GBV is understood to include physical and emotional sexual abuse for women, and acts such as trafficking women for sexual slavery and exploitation.
Gender-based violence is globally being recognized as a serious problem, both because of the morbidity and mortality associated with assault and but also the long-term impact on the health and well-being of affected individuals.
Recent reports by the World Bank have highlighted gender-based violence as a priority and precedence for public health. Development partners and practitioners are therefore supposed to play a key role in preventing violence against women.
Gender Based Violence contributes to chronic pain, gynecologic problems, depression, dysfunctional families, post-traumatic stress disorder and, in some cases suicide.
This course aims to build the capacity of learners to undertake programs targeted at eradicating gender-based violence and to develop a new movement and societal standards for gender equality and equity in all spheres of life.
