Financial management is concerned with the acquisition, financing and management of assets with some overall goals in mind. In the context of humanitarian organizations involves management of an organization’s resources to achieve its goals and objectives. It involves setting objectives, analyzing the competitive environment, evaluating strategies and ensuring that the management rolls out the strategies across the organization.
All funds available at the disposal of every humanitarian organization are from donors and when the donors give out money all they want is that it helps the less privileged have access to at least a dignified life. Disasters happen on a daily basis and humanitarian help can be accessed from various organizations, dependent on an organizations reputation in handling of past finances. The heart of any organization be it humanitarian or profit making is how finances are managed and to access any money there is need for an organization to prove that it has a clean record in as far as handling of past funds is concerned.
We believe that careful budgeting of an organizations resources and operating expenses is essential in strategic financial planning. We equip our learners on how to write proposals for funding for various projects that an organization may want to execute, how to execute the project in phases conducting evaluation exercises at every stage and how to prove accountability for donor funds. We believe that in emerging economies where disasters and conflicts are very common, the issue of corruption and mismanagement of funds is very rampant and has led to closure of many organizations.
The course also considers remuneration of employees as well as taking care of their basic needs when working in environments that are not safe. At our institute we believe that every employee in any organization has to have financial management skills to guide in the way that employees will handle resources and equipment at their discretion according others a dignified life when disaster or conflict beckons.
